Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Oh Joe! is a must read for anyone who has experienced grief and loss and struggles to survive. Other books have been written about the stages of grief. This one eloquently conveys in poem the complex feelings of the grieving process that others describe with clinical observation. There are no platitudes, no easy answers here. Joseph LeBlanc speaks from the heart about the anguish of loss and how it feels. It is a father's personal struggle to survive the loss of his son so piercing you will feel you are there and fall to your knees in thanks that you are not. He speaks to us of feelings of loss we all have in a way that cannot help but leave you touched. It is rare that a man would expose this much of himself. It is rarer still that he would write about it for all to read. We should be thankful for this glimpse into the recesses of soul within us all.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - touching and evocative
Joseph E. LeBlanc, Jr. shares his grief with readers through a year's worth of reflections on his son, his life, his struggle with his loss and his struggle to go on. LeBlanc's son died at the age of 31, somewhat suddenly; LeBlanc tried to cope by writing notes about his feelings and poetry that expressed those feelings so well. Here is a book that takes the real raw emotion of a man and makes it an offering to help those who grieve.

The real emotion is evident, and LeBlanc wishes it to be so. Holding on to those emotions kept them real. It is this reality that was all he had left to hold onto, until he let the healing begin. Through his writings LeBlanc shares the disbelief, the denial, the utter sadness and devastation that we go through when we lose someone so close to us. It is through this sharing that readers can see themselves and hopefully find comfort that they are not alone, find encouragement to go on in their own lives and understand this thing, this process we ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Eloquent Description of A Father's Grief
Oh Joe! A Father's Struggle to Survive the Loss of His Son is one of the most eloquent descriptions of grief that I have ever read. Joe LeBlanc died June 28, 2002, at age 31, due to complications from cystic fibrosis. He had a Masters Degree in exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation and worked at a fitness center. Just weeks before he died, he competed in a body-building contest.

Joe's father, Joseph E. LeBlanc, Jr., has written a moving depiction of his emotional experience during the year after his son's death. He is raw and tormented and bares his soul to the reader. He is struggling to survive and shares these unfamiliar uncomfortable feelings with us. The format is an interesting use of prose and poetry that flows together so that a page will stand on its own. His quest for meaning includes some of his thoughts about religion but for those who prefer secular writing, his religious search does not overwhelm the power of this memoir.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amoving account of a father's anguish...
Recommended reading for any parent struggling with the horror of the loss of a child, this book gives voice to the unimaginable pain experienced by a grieving father as he attempts to do the unthinkable: live through the experience and beyond. Filled with raw, naked emotion and attempt to find meaning, this is a must for anyone who thinks they are alone in their state of grief... The author's eloquence in sharing his feelings will move your soul.
