Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Locked up for a crime he didn't commit, burnt out detective Egon Rustemagick is released from a high security mental institution in order to catch a serial-killing monster who is murdering and mutilating housewives and young children. Stray Toasters is the seminal graphic novel written and painted by one of the world's most innovative and influential comic book artists, Bill Sienkiewicz. This dark, scary critically acclaimed tale mixes the sci-fi, noir, mystery and monster genres and sets them in a Blade Runner-like City of the Future. In this full-color definitive annotated volume, Sienkiewicz is at the top of his game. Contains new cover, cover gallery and a few surprises.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good
Sienkiewicz's artistic ideas are definitely more compelling than the storytelling here. The artwork is unlike anything I've seen in comics. Beautiful use of color and all that. Some psychedelic freakouts, too.

Unfortunately, the plot is standard psychological thriller fare made unbearable by endless interior monologue from multiple characters. It's hard to fully enjoy the artwork when a good portion of it is obscured by (very angsty) text boxes. The images are striking enough that all the words seem almost unnecessary. I eventually found myself irritated/confused because the "story" seems intent on pulling you in a certain bleak, one-note direction while the art bursts with fresh, sweeping ideas and emotion. It's an uneasy contrast.

But the book is absolutely worth buying and treasuring for the art alone which I'll probably be staring widemouthed at for weeks to come.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - most monkeys have little spaces in their lower jaws.
the plotline for this haphazardly (written in three weeks, between the hours of 2 and 5 am, while the artist worked in a coal mine) drawn comic involve stray toasters, alcohol, sex, cities, and bare feet.

so its kinda like that hit tv show, but only if RZA was actually a dolphin, and his rhymes were the answer to world peace.

bill's the man. though i suspect his parents were dolphins. and i hope i never meet him in a dark alley.
