Product Description:
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are one of the most important technologies on the web today. They give web developers the power to style their web sites so those sites are usable, compact, good looking, consistently displayable, and quick and efficient to change if so desired.
There are many books out there on CSS, but Beginning CSS Web Development is different—it doesnt waste time discussing theory, and it delves straight into the practical matter. It provides you with what you need to know, faster. It is also completely up to date, covering the most modern CSS standards and design techniques.
In addition to the essential CSS basics, this book covers advanced techniques like accessibility, hacks, and filters. The book concludes with a case study, and features a CSS reference section that allows you to look up required syntax as quickly as possible.

EXCELLENT - I have used tutorial DVDs and other comprehensive books but Beginning CSS Web Development book beats them all. Why? Because it explains the concepts in detail. Before this book, I felt like a monkey with a clipboard. I could create CSS pages but I never understood what was happening behind the scenes. I often got unexpected results with no understanding as to why. Now, I feel like I have been promoted from a monkey with a clipboard to a human with the reasoning ability to construct powerful and clean web pages. This book is a must for all beginners.

As someone coming back into web design after years as an on-again/off-again hobbyist with a primary background in plain-vanilla HTML, I chose this book as a primer for CSS, along with some online tutorials. It got me through the basics, including the design of layouts that will look the same in all of the major web browsers. This issue was the primary reason I'd shied away from using CSS in the first place, relying on old and outdated table-based layouts that didn't really have the look I wanted. No more! I'd recommend this book to anyone, and I'll continue to use it as a reference if I ever get stuck again. Five stars.

With shelves and shelves of programming books and a near sickness for buying a new one every week or two, this was a rare purchase in that I actually read it cover to cover. I already had a pretty good grasp on the subject, but it was gained the long, hard way. If you start off with this book, your learning curve for mastering CSS is going to be dramatically shortened. Collison lays out everything he covers sequentially and completely, and I didn't see a single place where I had to read it three times to get it. I think the strongest feeling you'll take away from this book is, "Wow, that was simple!", which means the author has done his job very well.
I liked the fact that while he covered hacks, he brings up good reasons for why they should be avoided, and provides solid, standards-compliant ways to get the task done that won't have you worrying about what will happen to your site when new browser versions no longer have the quirks that required a hack in the first place. ... This book is a good addition to the designer's library. It gives good basic information on CSS and is especially helpful for those making the transition from table-based designed to the more up-to-date CSS-based designs. It also includes a few great tips. The section on creating rollovers using only CSS is worth the price of the book alone.

..this book deserves recommendation. I bought it based on the other good ratings left by others and can confirm they're well deserved.
In a very clear and easy-to-read manner the author thoroughly explains the basics of CSS, complete with examples, and takes great care advising on good coding principles.
Having known very little about CSS before picking up this book I'm now very much informed and writing, I dare say, professional and advanced code.
