Amazon.com:
Friday is the rarest specimen of African American cinema: a 'hood movie refreshingly free of the semiseriousness and moralism of shoot 'em up soaps such as Boyz N the Hood, yet still true to the inner-city experience.

Scripted by rapper Ice Cube, Friday is a no-frills tale of a typical day in the life of a pair of African American youth in South Central. Cube plays Craig, a frustrated teen who endures the ultimate humiliation: getting fired on his day off. Then unknown Chris Tucker plays Smokey, a marijuana-worshipping homeboy whose love for the green stuff lands him in predicament after predicament.

Sitting on the stoop of Craig's rundown home, the two hilariously confront a kaleidoscopic array of gangbangers, weed dealers, crack heads, prostitutes, scheming girlfriends, and neighborhood bullies--all of whom, it should be noted, come off as sympathetic even as they are being caricatured, a true achievement in the crass, "booty call" environment of '90s African American comedy. --Ethan Brown

Friday's one of those great cult classic movies of our time. It's hilarious. One to be enjoyed always.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Movie Review - FRIDAY
I enjoyed this movie so much. I laughed until I hurt. Chris Tucker was just as funny with his movie debut in Friday as he was in other movies; Money Talks, Rush Hour, etc. This movie also brought out acting skills and exposure to some really young and funny stand-up comedians that I remember from Def Comedy Jam...Angela Means, Bernie Mac, Yvette Wilson. But the man to watch in this movie is Ice Cube. Although his personality in the music industry is serious, he is funny in this movie. It's a dry humor but he is a great actor and the story line true to life and creative. This movie is very entertaining for adults but keep it out of view from the kids. Quite a bit of profane language. You must also get the sequels "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next"...HILARIOUS.Friday (New Line Platinum Series) Next Friday (New Line Platinum Series) Friday After Next (Infinifilm Edition)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Chris Tucker's best R rated performance
When I was 14, I first saw Friday and almost choked from laughter. The script by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh is right on target with it's ghetto humor. Another plus point for the film is it doesn't stereotype. But it's Chris Tucker as Smokey who makes this film. His high pitched voice and mannerisms are classic.Hard-core rapper Ice Cube, after appearing in such hard-hitting films as Boyz 'N the Hood and Higher Learning, played his first comic role in this picture he co-wrote with frequent musical collaborator DJ Pooh. Craig (Ice Cube) manages to get fired on his day off (though he claims it's through no fault of his own) and spends the day hanging out with his buddy Smokey (Chris Tucker) and trying to avoid his father (John Witherspoon), who wants him to find another job immediately. Smokey (whose name might have something to do with his tremendous fondness for marijuana) has even more serious problems; he was given $200 worth of weed to sell by Big Worm (Faizon Love), but he ended up smoking ...
