Usability and improved workflow is an underlying theme throughout the 2008 feature set, a redesigned command center interface, improved search abilities, a new help system, and vacation & sick time tracking. The new command centers in AccountEdge includes task drawers that let you store a list of common functions for quick and easy access. AccountEdge 2008 includes more user-driven features that will help small businesses to mind their own business. AccountEdge 2008 features an enhanced search tool that lets the user search contacts, items, transactions, and more with a number of fields, including zip code, item description, first name, email address, vendor item number, and more. Only results that match are returned, and the results can be printed. The new reminder log allows the user to create reminders regardless of whether they have an associated contact. Leave tracking allows for a more precise tracking of employee vacation and sick time, including which days are taken, reason for time off, new accrual balance reports, automatic wage adjustments on timesheets and reports detailing vacation and sick time taken, accrued and time left.

Update: Here's where I started exploring MYOB in 2004. Four years later I'm still happy with the decision to use MYOB. Hopefully this review will help you make a smart decision. - David Cannon
I, like you, have been wading through the sea of worthless hyped information in search of a decent small business accounting package. I'm not an accountant, I am small business owner with a mission. When I asked my small biz friends what they were using, their usual offer was to loan me a copy of quickbooks on cdrom. I declined each time while asking more probing questions.
The #1 QB complaint was too many upsell ads followed by complaints about QB's cumbersome steps. All recommended at least 12 hours of self training before using QB. Three of five said they had quit using quickbooks pro. Two had outsourced accounting to a part time bookkeeper for about $1500 month.

I have been a regular user of AccountEdge since September of 1999, having switched when intuit could not guarantee a Y2K patch for QuickBooks Pro. Since MYOB has a new version of the software, I thought this would be a good time to take a look at what other accounting programs for Macintosh were being offered. I was surprised to see three other robust programs available. Reading the specs though I could see they were designed for smaller businesses such as sole proprietorships, or specific types of businesses (i.e., retail), or individuals. The two big players on the market for small to medium businesses are still QuickBooks Pro and MYOB AccountEdge (or Peachtree, if you are running an Intel Mac.) I know that MYOB maintains a commitment to continue to develop for the Macintosh platform. This is not necessarily so for Intuit and definitely not for Peachtree. I purchased this product at great expense after being assured I would be able to convert my QuickBooks for Windows file to it. Well, it didn't work so I'm stuck with a $300 piece of software which I'll never use.
I converted it from Windows QB to a MYOB file, which then, according to the company, I would be able to convert to a Mac MYOB file. The program and conversion utility would not recognize it. So I emailed an address I found on their web site which was specific to the conversion issue, and they took two weeks to respond and gave me the same directions which did not work. When I responded with my frustration, I was told I should have emailed someone else -- no more offer for help, just my mistake!
I would avoid this software and this company. Very poor service.
