Editorial Review:
Album Description: American Idol winner David Cook is set to release his self-titled debut album on November 18th, 2008. Produced by Grammy winning Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock), David Cook is a quality album full with radio hits. Cook co-wrote 9 songs from his debut, along with songwriters like Chris Cornell, Brian Howes & Cathy Dennis. The 1st single "Light On" was co-written by one of rock music's most influential innovators, Chris Cornell, lead singer and songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave, and acclaimed producer / songwriter Brian Howes, who has worked with superstar rock bands such as Hinder and Puddle of Mudd.

I know....he won "American Idol". But, let me assure you, he's NOT a Taylor Hicks. David Cook was the real deal before anyone discovered that he could rearrange other people's songs and turn them from gold to platinum and before even HE knew he could stare through the camera at the ladies with those soulful eyes and make them vote steadily on 4 phones for 4 hours. Winning Idol didn't legitimate his talent, it only propelled it into our living rooms and we shot it out into the world. This CD is the end product of all our voting and, let me tell you, it was worth all the elevated phone bills and falling asleep at work the next day. His brilliant lyrics (10 of the 12 songs were either co-written by him or penned on his own) are only the beginning of this CD's appeal. His soaring, sometimes gritty, sometimes breathy voice lifts you up with it or cuts into your soul to help you feel his pain. If you've heard his first solo CD, Analog Heart (and I suggest you find it and download it!) you'll ... Read More

David Cook delivers great vocals and pretty good song writing, though the recording is a bit over produced and you may have trouble relating to the David Cook that you knew on American Idol. And, the avante garde stuff, like his version of Billy Jean, which often spiced up other dreary AI performances are absent. Don't expect a rock album with jaw dropping good instrumentals, this is for vocal lovers only.

Another year, another Idol competition...and now another debut album! As of the last two seasons of America's favorite talent show, many critics are doubting the starpower of the actual winner. Ever since Daughtry broke the mold, outselling everyone in not only his Season 5 alumni, but almost every other Idol period, the top spot isn't as important to some as it used to be.
I'd call those people cynics, because if you look at the numbers, it breaks down like this: every Idol winner has had a successful career at least up to their first album. That is except for Taylor Hicks' dead-on-arrival career. Some have done much better than others (Underwood, Clarkson) but Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino & Jordin Sparks still racked up a good bit of success with their respective first albums.
All of that aside, maybe the real problem with Idol winners is not their commercial success, but rather the quality of their music. Has their ever been a flawless debut from a winner? ... Read More

Amazing start for AI 2008!
I am impressed with the quality of David's first CD and his voice, of course! I have 2 kids (10 & 4) and daily they can not have enough of this album, like me.:-) If David will continue in the same manner, his success will be maximum. For me, he is a young Bon Jovi! GO DAVID!

I voted for David Cook during A.I. but now I wish I had chosen David Archuleta! Cook's album sounds like a very generic rock album and all the songs sound almost the same - the same instrumentals and the same yelling in the end of each song. I thought that he would have a more diverse album but hopefully, he will try something new in his next album. On a side note, David Archuleta's album is just the sweetest album I have ever heard.
