I might have given it a higher rating if it sold for about $10, which is what it's worth.
* Not compatible with Vista 64-bit.
* Tech support/company website is worthless.
* Quality of photos is pretty awful. Washed-out colors, etc. I could probably get better results shining a flashlight through my old slides and taking a photo of the resulting projection on the wall.

I was hoping that this beautiful-looking little scanner would work as well as it looked. It didn't. It could not be made to operate, period. After installing and reinstalling the software four times as directed by the manuals, the error message "uTwainExe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" always shut down the scanner. The Help Desk at ArcSoft, who makes the ArcSoft Photoimpressions 6.1 software software program that runs the Ion Slides2PC scanner, made it clear from his unhelpful, uncaring "it's-not-my-problem" attitude that the uTwainExe.exe program crash wasn't their fault, and offered no suggestions on how resolve anything.
I had been thrilled at the prospect of scanning slides I made during the Vietnam War for a book I'm writing, but now, those pictures have to remain 1" x 1.5" pieces of Ektaccolor film. ArcSoft and Ion should be ashamed of this kind of response to a legitimate registered user of their products.

THe converter was easy to operate but the software was a little difficult to install. It took several tries but finally got it to work. Other than that, this is a great product.

My wife had a lot of old slides that she wanted to somehow get unto her laptop. When we saw that someone made a product like this we bought this one. Wife installed it quickly on her vista laptop and in a few minutes was up and running. I would have given it 5 stars but it does have a flimsy tray that holds only 3 slides at a time, but with care should last a long time, and you can buy extra trays. BUT for the money this is a great product! We will be doing the whole extended families slides and negativies once they see what we have done. A great product!

This is a nice slides scanner for the price. It works well for transforming those old slides to digital pictures. Have not tried it for negatives yet, but the slides come out wonderfully. It would be nice if the tray held more than 3 slides though.
