Product Description: The WinTV-HVR-2250 has two tuners, for watching a TV program while recording another program with the other tuner. Record analog cable TV shows to your PC's hard disk with a built-in high quality MPEG-2 hardware encoder. You can also record high definition digital ATSC and clear QAM digital cable TV to disk in the original digital quality. Use the WinTV-Scheduler to schedule the recordings of your favorite analog or digital TV programs. Play the recordings back to your PC screen at any time. Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. I purchased this product in Oct. 08' and was very excited to get them integrated into 2 media center systems I was building. Installation was a snap, both hardware and software, then came the disappointment.
The software packaged with the tuner needs quite a bit of work and some of it doesn't even work like the all important signal metering software. You would think that it's native bundled software would work the best with the tuners, but the recordings exhibit very annoying video tearing on the top of the screen.
I found that although I have a honkering long range 75 mile rooftop antenna that picks up digitals from neighboring states, I couldn't get my most important local channels less then 6 miles away with a clear line of sight from my hilltop location. I thought maybe it was multiple splitting of the antenna feed causing the issue in conjunction with a marginal tuner, but after going straight from the antenna to the card on a dedicated line realized that ... This tuner is great for those who want either cable or over-the-air, but not both. There is only one port for TV input (the other is for FM radio) so if you want analog cable TV and over-the-air digital, won't work. Otherwise a great dual tuner.

Well the card came as promised, I plugged it in and it began to work without too much problems. I did need to update drivers etc.
My issue is that you hve to set the card up as either two analog tuners or two QAM tuners, which means you can either watch a QAM and record a QAM program or watch a Analog channel and record an analog channel. Well you cannot. The card should not need to be set up as one or the other it should switch back and forth on the fly (as neccesary).
Hauppauge says it is a problem with Media Center not supporting the functionality. But then I tried to use there built in TV application and it doesnt get QAM at all Hauppauge says it is a problem with how comcast broadcasts there QAM signal. Souns like a big case of passing the buck to me.

This thing is pretty sweet. Just connect 1 coax cable and it splits it internaly. I like being able to record 2 shows at once. I watch TV on my big screen, but use this to record my favorite shows and works great, the quality, although not HD over my standard cable connection, is still quite good. My friends brag about having a 100gb Tivo, lol, i have 2Tbs, and can burn em to DVD, hehe. Great card, works perfect on Vista Ultamate 64bit. I use it with Media Center and not the WinTV.
The shipping was super fast and the price is certainly great.

If you are planning to use with SageTV 6.4.8 (latest as of this writing) then be aware that the ATSC tuners do NOT work. Although this is a problem with SageTV, those that are looking to purchase this card are likely to use it under SageTV.
SageTV recognizes this card as something completely different and is unable able to tune the Digital ATSC tuner. I've tried to install the latest beta XP 32-bit drivers from Hauppauge and the beta drivers for SageTV without avail.
I'm sure there's a fix for this coming from SageTV, and when it comes, this card will be perfect. But, until then, buyer beware!
