These CD's have been playing in my car since the day they arrived in the post, they are all excellent, the sound quality is great and Hank as always is fantastic

i would love to be able to comment on the quality of this cd, but as it has still not arrived i can't, so i have given it 5 stars anyway to maintain the average rating.
i ordered this item on the 10th of November for my dad's birthday on the 26th of november - more than 2 weeks later, despite a despatch date of 6-9 days, and a hefty shipping cost, it never arrived.
i am now writing this on the 5th december, with the item still not being sent out, nor any reason or explanation as to why not. i am almost certain that it will still not have been despatched in time for christmas, and probably not even november next year.
my girlfriend ordered 3 things for christmas gifts a week or so later, only one of these has been sent, while another definitely won't be here until after christmas they NOW tell her. take my advice; use amazon when choosing your product by reading the customer reviews etc, then go and buy it from somewhere else for less money, with ... It's rare than an artist whose been turned into an icon can ever again be seen in mortal form. But such is the case for the Hank Williams heard on these three CD's of transcriptions from 1951. With these fifty-four previously unreleased tracks, the dark saint of country music is delivered from fifty-five years of canonization as a hard-working musician striving to please his audience. Williams' much anthologized commercial recordings will forever keep his star aloft, but these newly released live-in-the-studio renderings, waxed under the sponsorship of Mother's Finest for radio broadcast, crackle with a level of intensity and vocal clarity not always captured in MGM's studios. Best of all, 1951 was a "career year" for Willliams, a year in which his artistry and superstardom hit simultaneous peaks. The crush of fame drew him repeatedly to the road and exacerbated the need to pre-record his 15-minute shows for Mother's Best, rendering into lacquer a one-of-a-kind portrait of Williams as artist ... I agree with Kevan - this is just the first of three box sets, apparently and very fine it is too. It's a bit frustrating knowing that there are 15 CDs worth of programmes out there and only 9 will get an official release.The sound quality is great and has obviously been cleaned up from the original acetates - unfortunately, most of the chat from the shows has been taken out and that's the big loss, for me with this set, because it provides a fascinating insight into the band dynamic of the Driftin' Cowboys.
I'd give it more than 5 out of 5 too, but for the missing bits there'll still be people trawling the dark recesses of the internet...!

I feel bad giving this box set 5 stars - it honestly deserves more!!
These recordings really are the holy grail for country music fans (though they might be called 'unreleased' but if you know where to look they've been available via the internet for years!). It's hard to fault it (well, I can actually but I'll come to that later) - a marvellous selection of songs, some well known in other versions but the majority not previously available; very nice packaging, far better than the earlier "Complete Hank Williams", with a great booklet; and with a sound quality, on the whole, that is quite astonishing considering these tracks were records in a radio studio over 50 years ago.
If I have one complaint it's the fact that each discs only runs for slightly under an hour - knowing that there is a lot more material from these sessions, it's a shame each disc wasn't filled to bursting!
