I have wood floors and a dog who sheds A LOT! I find that the swiffer sweeper XLarge and refills have been the best thing I have found to pick up pet hair and dust from the floor. I use it daily and also as a prep to a more thorough cleaning/wiping. It is quick and easy to use...especailly the XLarge size. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it does not pick up harder particles on the floor. It will at least move it around. You can pile it and then sweep it up after disposing of the cloth. I believe swiffer came out with a product that combines the vacuming effect with the magnet cloth. That should be interesting to try.
P.S. I also use this to clean dust on electronics and furniture.
