Editorial Review:
Album Description: Looking back, why did it take ten years to finally lure Waylon Jennings to the Austin City Limits stage for his first performance? Like everything else about the man, he did things his own way: when he was good and ready. Maybe it had something to do with that other Texas singer, that Red-Headed Stranger who shook things up in Austin and country music in general. Waylon wasn’t sure what the fuss was all about (as he sang, “It don’t matter who’s in Austin, Bob Wills is STILL the King!”). This special package contains both a CD and DVD of Waylon Jennings' first Austin City Limit’s performance, recorded in August 1984.

Album Description: Waylon Jenning's first Austin City Limit's performance, recorded in August 1984. 10 different songs than previous Live From Austin, TX release (recorded in 1989). Seven Top 10 singles including two #1s (I've Always Been Crazy, I Ain't Living Long Like This). Why did it take ten years to finally lure Waylon Jennings to the Austin City Limits stage for his first performance? Like everything else about the man, he did things his own way - when he was damn good and ready.

I've been a big Waylon Jennings fan for most of my life, and I was excited to see that this show was being released on CD and DVD. The set doesn't disappoint. It was recorded after Waylon had gotten his life straightened out, and it shows in his singing, picking, and personality.
The concert moves at a pretty quick pace, with Waylon only stopping to talk a few times in between songs, which is nice. The song selection is great, with a good balance of up-tempo songs and ballads.
Just as a fair warning to those looking for a hi-def experience - this show was recorded for television in 1984. It is in standard definition, and if you've ever seen an episode of "Austin City Limits," you'll have a pretty good idea of what the stage, setting, and lighting will look like. It doesn't look like it has been remastered. That said, it is still absolutely worth it to see and hear a clean and sober Waylon play a wonderful set at this stage in his life and career.

I bought this as a gift for my dad, who is a big Waylon fan (I am too). My problem with this item is that it is listed as a CD/DVD, 2 discs. What you actually get is just the DVD. It is misleading and the description needs to be changed.
