Editorial Review:
Album Description: As the front man for Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland has remained a dominant force in rock music. Now with his 2nd solo release he proves that his music and songwriting is as potent and powerful as ever. Produced by Scott Weiland and Doug Green (Velvet Revolver, Sheryl Crow, Crystal Method), with select tracks recorded by Steve Albini.

No matter what you think of Scott Weiland, one thing is certain--he is a ridiculed artist. Almost immediately as he achieved fame in the early 90s with Stone Temple Pilots he was accused of ripping-off Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder with his baritone growl in "Plush," and then with his solo album and later STP it was David Bowie he was said to have taken a page from. His lyrics are mocked as nonsensical gibberish and he has been called a hack, a fraud and a poser.
All this is unfair because the man does have talent, a lot of talent in fact. I will be the first to admit Weiland is somewhat of a "musical chameleon," borrowing elements from Vedder, Bowie, Reed, etc, over the years but his songwriting, willingness to experiment, melodies and, overall ability to craft a good song are superb. As for his lyrics...yeah, I don't always get them, but whatever...
Weiland's full talents perhaps best manifested themselves on his solo debut "12 Bar Blues" (1998). Unconcerned with ... Read More

Okay, Scott's "other" bands aside, for starters! This is definately one of those albums that grows on you! I mean the first two singles are not bad, but by far they are not the cream of the crop here. Scott's voice is incredibley versitlle and beautiful on just about all these tracks. My favorite is "Somethings must go this way", "Crash", and "Big Black Monster". I might be going a star too far, but some songs might grow on me that I'm not excited about at the moment. Missing Cleveland is a song I really wish they woulda kinda skipped over as the second single. This can be a very sad album, with some bowiesque vibes to it. Considering his brother just died, seperated from his wife, being fired from VR for alleged erratic behavior, So it's only natural that a man under those circumstances, be a bit distraught. But what do i know, great album!

Scott weiland really poured his feelings in this one. Which is a good thing because it's so different than any cd he has put out before. i really enjoyed this one

This is a really great cd. Completely different from the STP and VR cds. Many parts remind me of 12 bar blues, however the songs are written with more care. Radioheadish? Bowieish? Different...that's for sure.
Excellent CD for anyone who can appreciate good music.

First of all, I have all STP cd's, all Velvet Revolver cd's, and scott's other solo album. This was a big dissapointment for me. Just nothing memorable at all. Wouldnt recommend it unless you are a diehard. Although I give it an extra star because his cover of David Bowie's "Fame" is pretty decent...
