Once upon a time there was Web Monkey an indispensable resource for newcomers to the complexities of old style web design and HTML, but that was before the turn of the millennium. It is our intention to update this concept but to aim at today's newcommers to web design and website management. We don't believe that today's beginners should be hand coding HTML (the language of web pages), rather they should be using a Content Management System to simplify and automate the complexities for you. Together 'we' will be discussing the benefits of CMSs in general and the benefits of one CMS n particular, the Joomla Open source CMS. We will explain what a content management system is, how it will help you, how to install and use a CMS. So this site is like 'webmonkey' only about Joomla - hence JoomlaMonkey.
Oh one more reason for the JoomlaMonkey name (one of us is a monkey)
Meet The Joomla Monkey Team
Firstly there is George. He is a monkey (you can tell by the tail - apes do NOT have tails while monkeys do).
George wants to learn all that is necessary to build a useful interactive profitable web site that is as easy to manage as possible - but as a non tech-head George wants to steer clear of the technicalities as much as possible. Recently George has heard a great deal about 'Content Management Systems', and especially about the Joomla Open Source Content Management System.
The source of much of this discussion has been me, Dean, I live in the same house as George and have been trying to convince him for some time that a relative computer novice such as him could build and maintain an apparently complex website without too much difficulty.
So What Is JoomlaMonkey All About - Where Is It Headed.The basic idea is that George is going to build and maintain a website - his own website, not this website - and that I am going to offer him all the advice he needs as and when he needs it. We will document things as and when we come to them - in writing, or perhaps in video and share our experiences with you. George is doing this to learn how - my purposes are a little more complex. A greater and greater portion of my income as a 'PC and Internet Consultant' is Joomla related to the point where many people consider me a Joomla Consultant. I'm not entirely sure about the title - or whether a title matters - but the future seems apparent. My future is tied to Joomla's future. With that in mind it makes sense to promote Joomla as widely as possible and to help as many people convert to Joomla as smoothly (and as cheaply) as possible.
Here is my idea then. Initially I talk George through the process and offer a bit of hands on help as and when needed. When George is far enough down the line and we have enough material to help the average Website newcomer to make a start we (George and I) will recruit between 10 and 50 Joomla newbies and through a publicly readable forum George and I will offer assistance to the group as a whole and individually.
